Cutter Buckthorn also saves lives without buoy tending

A previous post on this blog described the Coast Guard Cutter Buckthorn’s Aids To Navigation mission as one crucial to saving lives on the Great Lakes.

Very appropo considering the crew saved a life by medevacing a sailor off the 698-foot Canadian laker, Michipicoten, offshore Waiska Bay Dec. 11, 2009. The 41-year-old Canadian sailor, experiencing pain and numbness in his left arm, was safely transferred aboard the Buckthorn and transported to shore for medical attention.

Bravo Zulu to the crew of 45-year-old 100-foot inland buoy tender!
