Armed Forces Week Buffalo: A long overdue recognition

>The City of Buffalo, N.Y., is celebrating Armed Forces Week, and members of Coast Guard Sector Buffalo are participating in many of the area’s festivities. Rear Adm. Michael Parks, the Ninth District Commander, is there taking part in some of his first unit visits since assuming command April 26th.

But the highlight of these festivities will be the long overdue recognition of a little-known Coast Guard Hero, Lt. Thomas James Eugene Crotty. Thursday May 6, 2010, Rear Admiral Parks and city officials will officially recognize the World War II P.O.W’s heroics in defense of Corregidor and during the infamous Bataan “Death March.”

We will post the full story of the event in a later post. Until then, enjoy this piece on Lt. Crotty, which published on the Coast Guard Compass blog.
