Continuity of command ensured for Sector Detroit

Capt. Jeff Ogden relieved Capt. Fred Midgette as Commander of U.S. Coast Guard Sector Detroit during an official change-of-command ceremony, May 14, 2010.

The ceremony, presided over by Rear Adm. Michael Parks, Commander, Ninth Coast Guard District, took place at Coast Guard Air Station Detroit, located at Selfridge Air National Guard Base in Harrison Township, MI.

Ogden’s previous assignment was as Chief of Response for the Ninth Coast Guard District in Cleveland, Ohio. Midgette has now assumed the duties of Chief of Staff for the Ninth Coast Guard District.

The change of command is a time-honored tradition and deeply rooted in Coast Guard and Naval history. The event signifies a total transfer of responsibility, authority and accountability for the command. The ceremony is witnessed by all crewmembers so that they all know exactly when the transfer of leadership takes place.

The Ninth District staff wishes fair winds and following seas to Capt. Ogden and welcomes the leadership and experience that Capt. Midgette brings with him.
