Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard visits Ninth District Headquarters


Master Chief Petty Officer Michael Leavitt, the Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard, visited the headquarters of the Ninth District in Cleveland on Tuesday, Sep. 28, 2010. Leavitt is the service’s senior enlisted member and advises the commandant of the Coast Guard on enlisted military workforce policies, assists in the development of policy for managing the Coast Guard’s enlisted workforce, and travels to various Coast Guard units, addressing personnel and quality of life issues.

The master chief held an all-hands meeting with the district staff, where he outlined his vision statement. He emphasized his focus on effective leaders’ personal growth, balance and accountability.

District staff members were able to ask Leavitt questions regarding issues ranging from the upcoming Career Retention Screening Panel to district-specific concerns that affect the day-to-day operations here on the Great Lakes. He also announced that a Web site will be forthcoming where he will be able to communicate with members in the field and address the issues faced by Guardians throughout the nation.

Leavitt will be visiting Lake Erie-area units for the next few days, and is scheduled to hold a Chief’s Call in Cleveland, Friday.
