The crew of Station St. Joseph, Mich., saved a boater Sunday after his catamaran capsized off Bethany Beach near Warren Dunes State Park in Michigan.

When a good samaritan at the beach saw the lone mariner waving his arms for help about 9:40 a.m., he called for assistance. A Station St. Joseph response boatcrew was underway within four minutes, and a crew aboard a Dolphin rescue helicopter from Air Station Traverse City, Mich., which was already in the area, headed toward the distressed boater as well.

Less than 30 minutes after the initial call for help, the St. Joseph boatcrew brought the mariner aboard the response boat, where he told the crew he simply became fatigued after trying to re-right his capsized catamaran. They brought the man and his boat safely to shore at Bethany Beach.
