Crewmembers of Marine Safety Detachment Massena, N.Y., promote excellence in education by working with local schools and providing students and teachers with a basic overview of Coast Guard missions, while also focusing on discussion concerning aquatic invasive species.

To date, the program has reached more than 1,280 students at eight local high schools.

MSD Massena’s Environmental Education Program has been designed to not only raise awareness of the Coast Guard throughout its area of operations, but to combat the spread of non-indigenous species into the Great Lakes.
